If you don't know The Multnomah commissioners asked for an opinion from its county counsel, Agnes Sowle, and an outside counsel that denying same-sex marriage licenses violated the Oregon Constitution.

So their wern't any public hearings meetings the County Chairwoman Diane Linn just instructed the county to issue licenses. People roared that there was no public hearing but the commission isn't really required to have hearing to implement existing law.

Since then, neither Judge Koch, Attorney General Hardy Myers nor Legislative Counsel Gregory Chaimov has said the opinion was wrong.

"This letter responds to your request for our opinion whether state law requires a county clerk to license the marriage of a same-sex couple," Chaimov wrote. "The answer is yes."
