The President-Elect has said we are in for a change or 2. He is committed (as it says on his webpage below) that he is committed to civil rights in our nation. He is asking for you vision of America--he needs to know that this issue needs to be beyond the states. He needs to know that no rights for some of our citizens is a bad thing. He needs to know that we know moving it to the states is not really dealing with the issue.

    Let him know, please:

L.A. CITY ATTORNEY ROCKY DELGADILLO JOINS SAN
    FRANCISCO, SANTA CLARA IN FILING
    ACTION TO INVALIDATE PROPOSITION 8

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo today announced
his office has joined San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera and Santa
Clara County Counsel Anne C. Ravel in filing a petition for writ of mandate with
the California Supreme Court in order to invalidate Proposition 8, an initiative
constitutional amendment that would deny same sex couples their fundamental
right to marry in the State of California.

“Equal protection under the law is a bedrock principle of our constitutional
democracy,” said City Attorney Delgadillo. “Proposition 8 flies in the face of that
principle, and strips away fundamental rights from countless Californians.
Proposition 8’s supporters won a temporary victory, but only after waging a
misleading campaign based on fear, and bank-rolled by out-of-state interests. I
am committed to using every resource at my disposal to secure the full civil rights
of my constituents, and all Californians. We will not allow discrimination to be
written into our State Constitution, and I am confident we will preserve equal
rights for all. This is California.”

The 34-page suit filed with the high court in San Francisco this afternoon argues
that the California Constitution’s equal protection provisions do not allow a bare
majority of voters to use the amendment process to divest politically disfavored
groups of constitutional rights. Such a sweeping redefinition of equal protection
would require a constitutional revision rather than a mere amendment, the
petition argues. Article XVIII of the California Constitution provides that a
constitutional revision may only be accomplished by a constitutional convention
and popular ratification, or by legislative submission to the electorate.

“In this nation, and in this state, we amend our Constitution to extend rights, not
    strip them away,” added Delgadillo.

    Today’s filing is attached.

Anti-gay pastor Rick Warren has been selected to give invocation at Obama inauguration. This is an utter nightmare and a total insult to the LGBT community and their straight allies.

There are few things you can do about this,

    1. Call on President-elect Obama to restore our trust and take real action on equality!

    2. Take action on the pick of Rick Warren for Obama’s invocation speech:

    3. Send Obama a letter at change.gov/page/content/contact/ and ask Rick Warren to be removed from the event!

    4. Email Parag Mehta, Obama's LGBT liaison on the transition team at parag.mehta@ptt.gov to express your concern.

    5. Emmett Belivau is the Executive Director/CEO of the Inaugural Committee. Let him know your thoughts:

    6. Have your voice to be heard and send emails to the members of Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, including

    Sen. Harry Reid

    Rep. Steny Hoyer

    Rep. John Boehner

    7. Post your letters on the discussion board. Let the whole world know why are you disappointed and outraged!

    8. Ask your friends and family members to do the same.
