Portland, July 9, 2004--State of Oregon Must Record Same-Sex Marriages---The State of Oregon must immediately record the marriages of the more than 3,000 same-sex couples married in Oregon, according to an Oregon Court of Appeals decision today. The Court denied the State of Oregon's request for a stay of the portion of the circuit court decision that required the state to register those marriages. The court had previously granted the state a temporary stay while it considered the merits of the State's request for a stay pending appeal. The temporary stay is no longer in effect.
